Abstract
We demonstrate two-photon excitation fluorescence lifetime measurements with an ultra-short pulse emitter based on cooperative emission in multiple wide-quantum-well (WQW) heterostructures. Its optical cavity reassembles a tandem-cavity self-pulsing (SP) laser diode with a middle electroabsorber section, but the QWs and the driving conditions are different. Due to quantum-confined Stark effect (QCSE) in wide quantum well, it is possible to spatially pull the electrons and holes apart from each other and quench SP lasing. When the pump bias is removed, an ultra-short pulse due to cooperative recombination of electrons and holes emerges. We apply such superradiant source to excite Rhodamine 6G in ethanol solution in the two-photon absorption regime and we demonstrate the measurements of its fluorescence decay lifetime.
