Revolutionizing Health with AI: Navigating the New Era Between Benefits and Risks

Abstract
Artificial intelligence is transforming healthcare by enabling new diagnostic, preventive, and personalized medicine paradigms, while simultaneously raising regulatory, ethical, and societal challenges. This talk provides a balanced perspective on the benefits and risks of AI in health, drawing on concrete use cases from phenomics, biologically informed neural networks, and multi-modal data integration. The presentation addresses technical challenges such as data heterogeneity, ground-truth uncertainty, and scalability, alongside regulatory considerations including the EU AI Act, ethical design principles, and responsible deployment frameworks. Emphasis is placed on explainability and trust as key enablers for clinical adoption. By integrating scientific innovation with governance and policy perspectives, the talk outlines pathways for deploying AI systems that are both impactful and trustworthy. The work advocates for collaboration across academia, industry, and regulators to ensure sustainable progress in AI-driven healthcare.
